GeneralThe 2001 and 2003 Asian champions will make their Olympic Games debut in Beijing and booked their place at the 2008 Games as a group winner in the second round of Asia qualifying in 2007. They completely destroyed the opposition with a faultless record in qualification, winning all six of their matches, hitting the back of the net over 50 times and not conceding a single goal. Hong Kong in particular were put to the sword as DPR Korea celebrated their qualification with a 19-0 total demolition in Pyongyang in the last round of matches, four months after beating them 14-0 in Hong Kong. They failed to qualify for the 2004 Olympic Games at the final hurdle after a surprise 3-0 defeat to Japan in the semifinals of the qualifying tournament and will want to make their mark in Beijing in their first finals quest for Olympic medals. There was no shame in their exit from the 2007 World Cup, going down 3-0 at the hands of eventual winners Germany at the quarterfinal stage and their 2008 Games squad will be boosted with the inclusion of some of the key names that helped the country become champions at the 2006 World U20 Cup in Russia. They are also the reigning Asian Games champions, having beaten Japan on penalties in Doha, Qatar in 2006.
